The motivation of this paper is to present the partial state reference model (PSRM) adaptive control approach and investigate its applicability to diesel engines which are widely used as power sources. The control objective consists in well damped and offset-free response to speed commands in spite of the well known complexity of the engine dynamics. This particularly allows to improve the fuel efficiency.
