Estimation of earthquake damage is performed via empirical damage probability matrices. Therndegree of damage is quantified in terms of the damage ratio, which is defined as the ratio of cost of repairing thernearthquake damage to the replacement cost of the building. Observational data bases are enriched and improvedrnwith the damage distribution statistics of recent earthquakes that occurred in Turkey belonging to approximatelyrn120 000 buildings.The expected mean damage ratios are computed for reinforced concrete and masonry buildingsrnconstructed in different seismic zones of Turkey and are presented.
