The longitudinal ventilation plays an important role in the fire development and fire spread in a tunnel fire. The fire growth rate that indicates the hazardous level and the flame length that correlates with the fire spread are two key parameters in a tunnel fire. However, they have not yet been fully explored. In this paper we have collected a large amount of data relevant to the fire growth rate and the flame length from model and large scale tunnel fire tests, and made a detailed analysis of the effect of ventilation on these two parameters. Two equations that correlate well with the data of the fire growth rate and flame length in model scale and large scale were proposed.
