Active Vibration Control (AVC) has been successfully introduced on two SikorskyrnAircraft platforms: the UH-60M and the S-92A. The AVC system replaced the passivernabsorbers and provided similar capability in level flight at nominal rotor speed whilernweighing less than its passive counterpart. At off-nominal rotor speed conditions, thernAVC system achieved superior performance compared to the passive absorbers, whichrnare only effective over a narrow frequency band (centered around their tuning frequency).rnIn 2004, the AVC system was evaluated on the MH-60S. Like the UH-60M and the S-92rnthat preceded it, the MH-60S AVC system was evaluated against the passive absorberrnsuite in level flight performance and off-nominal rotor speed performance. However, thernAVC system was also evaluated in a new performance category: transient performance.rnThe MH-60S is a multi-role aircraft and certain configurations require it to perform shortrnduration maneuvers that result in high vibration levels. The AVC system was able tornmitigate the severity of these transient maneuvers by reducing the peak vibration level atrnmost of the locations of interest.
