Loss-of-control due to aerodynamic stall continues to be the largest contributor to fatal civil aviation accidents. Improved ground simulator training encompassing recovery from post-stall would therefore be of great benefit. Models of the aircraft in the post-stall regime will obviously be required to carry out meaningful post-stall training. This study offers a methodology to generate representative stall models for a target aircraft of arbitrary configuration given the stall data for a similar baseline aircraft. First, a literature review on the effects of aircraft configuration changes on stall aerodynamics is presented. This review summarizes publicly available knowledge, primary based on past wind tunnel studies. Second, the basic modelling methodology is presented, detailing how the post-stall model for a target aircraft is created based on its pre-stall model and post-stall data of a similar baseline aircraft. Last, two key methods for incorporating configuration effects, one being a semi-analytical method and the other based on interpolation and extrapolation of wind tunnel data, are detailed and examples are given. Preliminary results show good promise on the methodology's ability to predict post-stall configuration effects.
