Naphta reforming over Pt-type catalyst exhibits some inconveniences (the necessity of reducing S and N compounds and water to ppm concentrations, incomplete transformation of light n-paraffins, relatively high content of benzene in the reformate). Reforming over zeolite hybrid catalysts has the advantage that it can process various petroleum fractions (full-range naphta, light naphta, heavy naphta, catalytic cracking and cracking gasoline, etc), with desulphurisation degree reaching 90%, C_6+ paraffins being totally transformed and benzene content in the reformate being less than 3%wt. The paper describes extensive experimental work in reforming, with a zeolite double promoted with Zn (RO Patent 110000), operated at 350 - 450℃ and atmospheric pressure. The test reaction used for catalyst screening was the n-hexane conversion as it illustrates better the aromatic alkylation processes with higher alkanes, the reactant being in the range of gasoline composition. A detailed mathematical model including 23 chemical reactions enables simulation, parametric study and optimisation of the catalyst and of the reforming process.
