This article discusses the impact of globalization on manufacturing; in particular, on the commodity chemical industry. Improving process productivity and reducing variable cost provide means for responding to globalization. Improving fixed bed catalyst performance provides one method for increasing process productivity and for achieving potential variable cost reduction. This article outlines a strategy for improving the performance of a fixed bed catalyst.
