Automated infrastructure surveillance technology has been developed and implemented that integrates and provides management capabilities of surveillance information. A single universal interface allows the display of all monitoring devices within a water agency's inventory to include the management of input from video cameras, motion detectors, acoustic sensors and other like devices. Input is channeled through a control facility allowing Intranet-based access to authorized users at multiple locations. Integrating alarm management systems with the automated surveillance technology can minimize the inefficiencies and associated costs for 24/7 monitoring with security personnel. Automated alarms can be generated immediately allowing suspicious events to be rapidly identified and investigated. Alarm parameters are dictated by the user and can be modified to match needs at-will. Alarms can be distributed simultaneously to multiple destinations via modes including audible alarms, email notification, voice-synthesized telephone calls and wireless handheld devices. Video images of the cause of the alarm are also a useful option. The surveillance technology and the associated alarm management system are compatible with industry standard GIS platforms such as ARCInfo and ARCView and can also be configured to use industry standard encryption and authentication protocols. This type of technology can be integrated into existing and future surveillance equipment providing the ability for continued use of current and/or future surveillance hardware.
