Studies and research have long shown CLSM to be a favorable alternative to traditional pipe bedding materials. It has desirable structural properties at both early and ultimate strength conditions, while providing the potential for time and cost saving benefits. This paper has presented recommended trench and embankment bedding factors for use with CLSM as a bedding material. The use of FEA software SPIDA was employed to determine in-place RCP moments and thrusts in the pipe wall without undergoing the time and expense of field tests. The resulting pipe forces were used to calculate bedding factors for a range of installation conditions and pipe diameters. It is hoped that the bedding factors recommended herein will be reviewed and accepted for publication by the ACPA.
