Weather information has significant implications for aviation safety. Cockpit Weather Information Systems (CWIS) are a new group of avionics products installed on the aircraft cockpit to provide weather information to the pilot. In such systems, textual and graphical weather information is uploaded to the plane from ground or satellite sources. With the help of those systems pilots can avoid high-risk areas affected by storms, winds, and icing. This research develops a generalized product planning and forecasting model for CWIS. The methodology presented in this paper can also be applied to various product development projects in the avionics industry.
