Optical filters of wavelength division multiplexer(WDM) are passive communication components used in case of transmitting and reflecting lights with specific wavelengths. The jig device equipped with several manual axes has been used in the present inspection process. However, the axes are coupled, and so both a lot of time and expertness are required to regulate the manual jig device. Inconsistent measurement values of optical spectrums result from the manual control of the jig device. In this paper, a novel mechanism for the automatic alignment of optical ray has been presented. It includes minimum axes not to be coupled each other, and an automatic control algorithm is proposed to not only perform an accurate alignment but also decrease the alignment time. The automatic spectrum inspection system has been developed to improve the alignment time of reference optical ray, spectrum inspection time and inspection quality, simultaneously. It has been confirmed that the proposed spectrum inspection system is faster, more precise and more reliable than those based on the conventional handwork.
