摘要

The aim of this project was to identify the costs and benefits of office ergonomics. The project centres on a computerised office where operators input newspaper advertisements. Since 1992 the company concerned has realised the potential of this work to put staff at risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders. Aware that the ergonomic intervention within the office has been costly though beneficial, the Health and Safety staff were keen to compare the costs and benefits. The analysis showed that the resulting benefits would equal the cost of the intervention in approximately two years following the implementation. The study also revealed a number of additional relevant benefits, which could not readily be costed or included in a financial analysis. In addition the study concluded that there are a number of aspects regarding the use of cost benefit analysis methods for ergonomic interventions which require further investigation.
