摘要

In May 2000, I published an in-depth story for the Sunday Boston Globe about the French COMETA report and the broader issue of UFOs and national security. My prior experience was as a widely published, print journalist and a producer and host for an investigative news program on KPFA Radio, a Pacifica station in Berkeley, CA. When I received an advance copy of the English translation of the COMETA report from a colleague in France, I recognized that the extraordinary conclusion reached by the distinguished authors was newsworthy, and that this report had potentially profound implications that needed to be addressed and made available to the public. In the process of researching and publishing the article, I learned a great deal about media attitudes towards the subject of UFOs, and gained clarity about the correct way to present the subject in order to give it credibility and make it accessible to those in positions of power and influence. In 2001, I followed up with a second story for the Providence Journal about pilot sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena and possible aviation safety concerns. Both stories were syndicated, and others followed. My work as a journalist giving serious coverage to the UFO issue then led to my co-founding of the Coalition for Freedom of Information (CFi) in the fall of 2002, and as Director of Investigations for CFi, I have spearheaded a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) initiative into the Kecksburg, PA crash case of 1965 and pursued other investigative avenues. This ongoing project is supported by the SCI FI Channel as part of its public advocacy initiative to get to the facts about UFOs. In response to stonewalling by various agencies, CFi filed a lawsuit against NASA in December, 2003, which is still pending as of this writing. Other lawsuits will likely follow.
