Blind deconvolution was tried as a methodology to restore eddy current data. In some cases the restoration results in smaller flaw images. We believe that these images could be used as the input for a data fusion algorithm, since they are more accurate for determining the crack mouth boundaries than the raw blurred data. It can be argued however that similar results could be obtained by simple (user interactive) thresholding. The method presented only involves the user determination of a support region and a filter size. Further research should focus on blind image restoration algorithms that incorporate the nonlinearity and shift-variance of the blurring mechanism. Features of a model-based approach to the problem should be used as prior information.
