It is concluded from this study that the amplitude decay of the homogeneous plane wave, which is attenuated along the Poynting vector, is only due to absorption issued from viscoelasticity. Inspection of this attenuation for various angles of propagation or for various materials make then possible the comparison, in order to quantify the relative degree of attenuation between them. In addition, an investigation involving the ray theory for absorbing solids should be initiated on the basis of the present study. This work will generalise the Green function calculations of the acoustic response for any semi-infinite anisotropic and absorbing media.
