To operate effectively, advanced transportation management and information systems require details of the traffic situation, based on travel time and traffic density of an entire road section. These parameters cannot be determined by conventional methods based on local measurements. Instead a measurement technique is needed that correlates series of vehicle features from different measuring sites. These features identify and re-identify single vehicles or vehicle platoons.
