A newly built commercial complex in Sichuan, China was found to have substantially encroached upon state land. A survey was undertaken and the affected portion of the building had to be removed in order to comply with the authorities' regulation. In view of time constraint, demolition technique using explosives were selected instead of the conventional bull dozing method. Also, a structural strengthening technique employing fiber-reinforced plastic (frp) to protect the structural members to be retained was preferred over conventional strengthening techniques based on time, cost and structural performance considerations. This paper presents how the project was undertaken and completed within only 15 days.
