In this paper the high-pressure water jet cleaning device specifically developed by the authors in recent years for several kind of spent fuel element transportation containers is introduced. The design of the device takes water-jet technology as the core and specially characterizes the features of high requirements of nuclear engineering for safety reliability and remote handling. The device is in operation successfully in the first pilot reprocessing plant in China for spent fuel element of power reactors and has achieved the goal of convenient, safe and reliable cleaning operations. This development provides a reference for applications of high-pressure water-jet cleaning technology in nuclear engineering.
