Hardfacing is frequently used to extend the service lifernof various machine’s parts which could be damaged byrnwear or cracking. Hardfaced metal has high strength andrnhardness to improve the mechanical properties of basernmetal. However, the hardfaced layer suffers the heatrncycle due to hardfacing, resulting in change of itsrnmicrostructure and strength as the heat affected zone inrnweldment. When the hardfacing is applied repeatedly onrnseveral times, the service life of the parts do not dependrnon the properties of hardfaced metal, but on therndegradation of heat affected zone.rnIn this study, we analyzed the degradation of a castrnsteel by welding heat cycle of hardfacing repeated on 7rntimes. The microstructural change and the variation ofrnhardness of heat affected zone was investigated forrnhardfacing of each time with the specimen made by realrnhardfacing. Fatigue strength test was performed with thernspecimen made by metal thermal cycle simulation.rnFatigue crack propagation test was also performed withrnthe specimen of real hardfacing. The results of S-N curvernand crack propagation rate was discussed in relation withrnthe metallurgy of hardfacing.
