The technology to synthesize polyurethane (PU) by the reaction between toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and hydroxyl compounds is widely used in the production of curing agents used for paints. For example, the addition compounds manufactured by the reaction between TMP (tri-methyl propane) and TDI (toluene diisocyanate), or the prepolymers and tripolymers made with TDI are all used widely because of their excellent properties. However , the content of the free TDI in curing agents processed by the old method popularly used in China for decades is very high, generally exceed 2%, and may reach 6%. It is harmful not only to the health of the painter but also to the environment because of the volatilization of TDI. The paint researchers worked hard on studying how to decrease the content of the free TDI since long ago, spending much manpower and material resources, and had never been successful because it is too much difficult to do it.
