With over 4500 dams, Oklahoma is second in the Nation in the highest number of dams per FTE. With National Dam Safety Program funding, Oklahoma developed a long-range plan to invest in state-of-the-art technology to allow the state to adequately care for aging dams and reservoirs without an increase in personnel. Oklahoma dam safety field offices are currently equipped with digital cameras, laptop computers, and color printers to assist with dam safety inspections. With High Accuracy Global Positioning System (GPS) survey equipment and a Robotic Total Station, Oklahoma can efficiently obtain accurate cross-section data for breach inundation mapping. The survey data is used with upgraded breach inundation mapping software to generate inundation maps that will be furnished to emergency managers in the areas downstream of Oklahoma high-hazard potential classification dams. The Oklahoma Water Resources Board has historically used a DOS-based QuikRoute program for the evaluation of Spillway and Freeboard Adequacy and Overtopping Failure Analysis of Dam Impoundments. The program was developed by the Southwest Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1982 and used card decks on a mainframe computer. This program was modified to run under DOS using an ASCII file input instead of card decks in the early 1990's. The format of the ASCII input file, however, was still in the same format and organized in the same sequence as the original card deck input. The program was written in the Fortran 77 programming language.
