The pump-type of the hydraulic free piston engine is a reciprocating valve controlled two-cylinder pump running at relative high speed. These facts set requirements for the pump design in order to ensure efficient operation. In the previous studies the effect of the valves are considered and their effect have been observed to be remarkable. This study handles the design of the suction and delivery line of mentioned pump type. The study is performed by computer simulation program AMESim. The studied measures are the line capacitances and inductances, which are function of pipe diameter and length. Simulations showed that internal line designs have an effect on the pressure and flow behaviour and inductance was found out to be the more important measure. The inductance should be as low as possible. Though the pump is connected to the external lines, they cannot improve bad internal design.
