The Vallejo Sanitation and Flood Control District (District) is undertaking a pilot program tornassess the effectiveness of sanitary sewer rehabilitation to reduce rainfall dependentrninfiltration and inflow (RDI/I). The pilot program includes measurement of flow andrnrainfall in selected basins within the District over an extended period, both before and afterrnrehabilitation of the sewer pipes and manholes in the basins. The goal of the program is tornmeasure the amount of reduction in RDI/I entering the system after completion ofrnrehabilitation and to determine the level of RDI/I flow reduction that may be expected ifrnrehabilitation is expanded to other basins.rnDue to a lack of standardized methodology for conducting RDI/I reduction assessments, arnnew methodology was developed for this project. The methodology includes use of controlrnbasins in which no rehabilitation was conducted. The control basins are intended to providernan indication of variations in RDI/I resulting from varying weather patterns. Data from therncontrol basins indicates that wide variations in RDI/I flow were observed that werernattributable to weather variations rather than sewer rehabilitation.rnThis paper provides an description of the methodology used to assess RDI/I reduction inrnthree basins including adjustments for variations in weather patterns. Varying levels ofrnrehabilitation and replacement of service laterals, main sewer lines, and manholes wererncompleted in the three selected basins..
