摘要

In January 2007 a record lining life was achieved in a Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Converter at Bokaro India. The refractories were produced in China with a lining concept designed in the United Kingdom to meet a specific customer brief. In service operations were supported by the local technical services team.The 300t SAIL Bokaro converters are the largest in India. Plant production has increased to 3 million tonnes per annum with a further expansion to 5 million tonnes planned. Due to an ever expanding product range operational conditions are more arduous than ever for the refractories. Operating temperatures have increased significantly with approximately 30% of casts being tapped at over 1700 C. Using a detailed study of the Bokaro process; a careful selection of Refractory materials; precision installation; pin-pointed specific lining maintenance; the expertise provided by Mayerton Refractories Group and an openness and trust from the Refractory personnel at Bokaro, a new record lining life, currently 2,687 heats, has been achieved and is increasing daily. This record life is even more noteworthy as it has been achieved using the first Mayerton Converter lining ever supplied to the SAIL Group. Mayerton has agreement from SAIL Bokaro to supply a second converter lining. Mayerton Group Technical Services will work in conjunction with the Bokaro Refractory department to further refine the lining configuration and material selection so that the 3,000 heat barrier can be surpassed during 2007.
