Excavation of No.2 ventilation shaft of Qinling highway tunnel

摘要

Three vertical shafts are constructed in order to solve the ventilation problem of Qinling Highway Tunnel which is 18.0 km long. No.2 ventilation shaft is 661.1m in depth and 11.2m in inner diameter. The excavation of the shaft is very difficult because of the high in situ stress, hard rock, inconvenient hoisting/transportation,large cross-section and depth. The shaft is excavated by drill and blast method. The support design, machinery,technology of hybrid hole cuts and smooth blasting are described. The countermeasures to rockburst are also covered. The accumulated information presented here is believed to be useful and reliable for a successful shaft excavation in similar formations.
