摘要

The microindentation test is currently an effective method to characterize the mechanical properties of materials such as metals, polymers and ceramics. The objective of this work is to provide a comprehensive methodology for the characterization of geomaterials (rocks) by microindentation. The study concerns the calibration of the device and its application to the characterization of two types of rocks (limestone and sandstone).Compared with the conventional method, i.e. the axial compression test, Young’s modulus and compression resistance obtained by microindentation test are discussed. Further study should be conducted to identify more complicated parameters of the mechanical behavior of rocks.
