Utilizing cost effective precast elements and accelerated bridge constructionmethods, the new Colonial Road structure accommodates additional pocket track construction,while minimizing closures to the Long Island Railroad transit operations. The $24.9M ColonialRoad Improvement Project includes the replacement of a 115 year-old structurally deficientbridge, improved drainage at the track level and the extension of the existing pocket track.Significant logistical and installation challenges were overcome during two planned trackshutdown weekends. With the project located just 19 miles from Times Square in New York City,the timing of the staging, delivery and installation of the 84 arch units, was critical to the successof the project.
