Stream flow varies with respect to time and space. Dams and reservoirs are primarily constructed to smooth out the variability of surface water flow through control and regulation and also to make water available when and where it is needed. The influence of dam construction and surface water regulation in Iran is so important that all the experts believe that for suitable development programs, reservoir dam construction is the best feasible solution. An agreeable economy in Iran during new century depends highly on supplying the required urban, agricultural and industrial water. This paper covers a summary description of the characteristics of several dams under construction since the 90's. Some of these structures are namely, Karoun III arch concrete reservoir, Godar-E-Landar regulating earthfill, and Karkheh rockfill reservoir dams.
