Life of internal reformer for molten carbonate fuel cell is studied using a cell model. The cell model includes the degradation data of the present internal reforming catalyst. The life is defined as the time when cell voltage drops by 10-20mV. According to the results the present catalyst has the potential to achieve over 40,000 hour's life by an appropriate reformer design. As for the reformer design advanced internal reforming (IIR+DIR) has longer life than DIR only, especially at atmospheric condition. Pressurization of the internal reforming cell favors the life of the reformer, which makes the life of the DIR cell more than 40,000 hour.
