摘要

The quality and durability of concrete is dependent on best packing of particles to fill voids and capillaries. Packing has a major influence on the workability and compactability of concrete, but not as much on the final strength of the concrete. Tests to find the best packing of materials are described and results, as well as a resume of the results are given. Since packing tests are not always available, but grading curves can easily be found, a correlation between grading curves and packing is presented. An ideal grading curve is proposed and it is shown how grading curves can be manipulated by addition of aggregates to give the best grading and mixture for the available material. It is finally suggested that best packing of materials should receive preference in concrete mix design and that cement be added to provide the strength.
