The Reactive Chemicals Resource Center (RCRC) was launched from the Core R&D Function of The Dow Chemical Company in May of 2002 to improve the delivery of Reactive Chemicals information within Dow. While resolving and documenting client requests for data and information for thermal and flammability hazard evaluations, the RCRC simultaneously developed and implemented a knowledge management system for organizing and making shared information easily accessible. Although Dow has operated Customer Technical Support Centers for several years to service external business customers, the RCRC represents the first technical contact center to serve internal Dow clients from a leveraged capability. This initiative was driven by a desire to improve speed of response in solving Reactive Chemicals requests and has achieved a productivity gain of over 10% since startup.
