Reliability of impressed current cathodic protection systems is critical to ensure operational integrity, and safety, of steel structures used for the production, transportation and storage of petroleum products. The reliability of the impressed current cathodic protection system is directly correlated to the reliability of the power supply providing the impressed current. This paper reviews the suitability of utilizing thermoelectric generators as power supplies for impressed current CP systems.
