2003 sees significant changes in lead market: 1. In Europe, a lot of lead smelting capacities was closed. The distribution of smelting capacities in the world is changing, which lead to supply shortage and premium soaring. 2. Although global economy recovers slowly, consumer has an optimistic prediction on global economy and lead consumption. 3. This year, world lead consumption is on the increase, as a result of the increasingly strong Chinese economy, especially Chinese automobile industry. 4. The reduction of Chinese export tax rebate greatly influenced nonferrous metals market. With the policy being settled and released, the prices of base metals are all up, and lead price soared strongly.
