Silkworm pupae of multivoltine breed, Pure Mysore (PM), bivoltine breed, NB_4D_2 and their hybrid, PM x NB_4D_2 reared on S-54, M-5 and Mysore Local mulberry varieties were analysed for oil content and saponification value and iodine number of the pupal oil were determined. Pupae produced on S-54 mulberry registered highest oil (27.97%) with saponification value of 210.97 and iodine number of 110.57. The pupae obtained on Mysore Local yielded the lowest saponification value (204.50) and iodine number (104.38). The NB_4D_2 pupae registered highest oil percentage (26.54) with 208.51 and 108.56 as saponification and iodine number, respectively. Oil content was less (23.55%) in PM pupae with saponification value of 206.32 and iodine number of 106.30. The mulberry variety S-54 produced pupae with more oil content than Mysore Local. Bivoltine breed yielded more oil than multivoltine breed while cross breed yielded in between.
