Quantitative determination of poly-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in heavy products derived from coals is an important topic for its pollution control and proper use. Many studies have been carried out on the determination of PAH from varieties of sources by HPLC [1-4]. The determination of PAH in heavy products of coal-derived heavy products is still a challenge problem. In this presentation, a method for quantitative determination of PAH by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was reported. The external standard-correction factor (E-F) method was proposed. Three ways to obtain the correction factor were compared and discussed. Thirteen correction factors for typical PAH pure compounds were reported. For determination of two completely unresolved components, the ultraviolet (UV) double wavelength method was used. In this study the quantitative determination of the mixture of pure acennaphthene and fluorene and a coal tar were tested. About twenty kinds of PAH were found and determined in this typical coal tar sample.
