The communication protocol, SOTDMA (Self-Organized Time Division Access) is the key technique in AIS. Based on the analysis of the protocol theory, a computer simulation about it was completed successfully, from which we can obtain some communication performance of the AIS that is applied to VTS, such as the collision ratio, the utilization ratio and the capacity of the system. And finally the paper also brings forth several measures of how to increase the capacity in the busy VTS area.
