Before we go into the details of the calculation and construction according to the ENV 1999-1-1: 1998 (EUROCODE 9) I want to show you in some slides the advantages of the material aluminium and furthermore some constructions in aluminium. Afterwards we go into the new european standard EUROCODE 9 which has been prepared by an international group of experts from many european countries over the last ten years. The code is now out as ENV 1999-1-1: 1998 for two years and we started with the conversion phase as it is under way for the other EUROCODES. The final dead line for the end of the work is envisaged 2004/2005. Then the phase will come during which the individual national codes and the EURO-CODE 9 will be allowed to be applied simultaneously in the european countries. After that time all national codes will be taken from the market. CEN/TC 250, which is responsable for this procedure, has fixed a period around 2009/2010 for all EUROCODES.
