No.2 unit of Reihoku Power station, which is the newest 700MW coal-fired supercritical unit ofrnKyushu Electric Power Co., Inc, entered into commercial operation in June 2003. IHIrn(Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.) constructed the flue gas desulfurization plant withrnlimestone-gypsum process for this unit, which has the state-of-the-art technology and achievedrnextremely low emission values. To meet both demands for reducing construction cost and highrnperformance in recent years, IHI adopted a single absorber based on the simultaneous desulfurizationrnmethod which combined a rectangular absorber with non-leakage type Gas-Gas Heater (GGH) andrnLow-Low temperature Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP). To verify the performance of the rectangularrnabsorber, the demonstration plant of 1/60 scale was constructed next to No.1 unit to utilize the actualrnflue gas. The demonstration test resulted in reduction in absorber volume by 50% and saving of thernpower consumption of the recirculating pump by 20% compared with No.1 unit. This paper introducesrnthe design characteristics of this advanced FGD system and satisfactory operation results derivedrnfrom the commissioning for 10 months.
