Several miniature film combustor designs have been realized and tested. This paper describes two configurations that help describe the limits and the potential of liquid fuel-film miniature combustors. One is a double-chamber design that proves that some heat transfer issues can be overcome by injecting the fuel film on the outside of the primary combustor wall rather than on the inside, and the second is a design whose flame-holding mechanism is a porous material set on the bottom of the chamber. The results of combustion in these two configurations are compared with the better known single-wall miniature combustor and reveal new aspects relevant to high-density portable power generation. The most important effort related to these new concepts is to observe if the triple-flame structure seen in previous works is preserved.
