The demands on the physical management of fibre are changing rapidly. Increase in the quantity of fibres, the number of fibres per cable, fibres with different optical performances and constructions, is stretching the density and capacity of frames in addition to restricting the flexibility required by single circuit management and cross-connect functionality. In addition to these two fundamental trends the requirement for protection of fibres and low cost but high performance optical connectorisation is as apparent as ever as single fibres carry multiple signals.
