An investigation was undertaken to define non-traditional antistatic additives that would eliminate the color consistency problems that can occur when using dry blended colorants in the rotomolding process. Traditional antistatic agents, such as glycerol monostearate have been used, but require relatively high humidity to be effective. As a result of this investigation, a system was defined which is effective regardless of atmospheric conditions. During the course of this work there were a number of issues studied in addition to those associated with static. Among the unexpected results were the affect of resin particle size distribution and pigment type on color distribution in a rotomolded part.
