This contribution describes the evaluation of recent experimental and numerical investigations performed in the frame of an European research project on composite structures with high strength materials. The aim of the project was to determine the limits of applicability of existing codes and to improve existing design rules with regard to the use of high strength steels and high strength concrete. A testing programme was executed to provide information on the stability criteria and plastic design criteria for composite beams and columns and included the following experiments: 1. Tests on composite beams made of high strength steel in combination with normal strength or high strength concrete. 2. Tests on composite columns made of high strength steel in combination with normal strength or high strength concrete. 3. Static and dynamic push-out tests. The experimental results have been verified by numerical simulations that allowed to perform parameter variations and to generate results not fully covered by the tests.
