New phenomena of anisotropic light scattering, anisotropic Cherenkov third-harmonic generation, photoinduced birefringence and anisotropic reflection from femtosecond direct-write structures arc reviewed. The phenomena and recent direct observation reveal the smallest embedded structures ever created by light and new mechanism of light-matter interaction.
