FESIL has 16 years of experience with the TINJECT technology. Very early we found it necessary to develop a computer model to be able to handle all the parameters in an efficient way. Today this model is running very satisfactory in an Excel spreadsheet. FESIL has not integrated online computers in the refining systems for silicon, but through training of operators with help from the model, FESILs refined silicon has achieved a very positive reputation in the market. Nevertheless FESIL is planning to computerise the refining process to achieve an even better control over the process. In this paper we present some of our experiences with ladle refining and the use of the refining model.
