Fire is an important recurrent disturbance to many forest ecosystems.In the forests contaminated by the 1986 Chernobyl accident,fire will inevitably occur and needs to be incorporated into models and plans for remediation.The fire regime is changing because of changes in land use,public access,and climate,and cannot be predicted easily based on historical information.We describe the Canadian Fire Behavior Predication system as a possible tool to identify fire behaviour in the contaminated Pinus sylvestris forests in Belarus.However.Our knowledge of fire behaviour is better than our knowledge of the ecological effects following fire.
