The anodes from secondary copper production have elevated contents of elements such as lead, nickel, tin, zinc, antimony and precious metals. These elements form complex compounds, which are not soluble in the refining electrolysis. The composition of the anode slime from the electrolysis also fluctuates considerably, due to the heterogeneity of the secondary raw materials fed to the various steps of process. Anode slimes have to be treated by hydrometallurgical leaching operations before the precious metal arc extracted. The residue after the gold and silver recovery process should have only a low content of the precious metals itself but also of the valuable base metals copper, nickel and tin. In the present work different leaching steps with leaching agents available from the industrial process were investigated. The objective was to recover copper and other valuable elements like nickel, silver and tin and to determine the co-dissolution of arsenic, antimony, selenium, tellurium and bismuth, which might cause a problem.
