摘要

When it comes to pipeline integrity and corrosion, the two most important questions to a pipeline operator are how severe the corrosion is, and how quickly the integrity of the pipeline is deteriorating. In-line inspection (ILI) tools are an invaluable source for answering the first question, and they can be effectively used to address the second as well. ILI tools excel at providing detailed information about the size and location of corrosion and other types of anomalies on a pipeline. Areas with severe corrosion which could compromise pipeline integrity are identified and subsequently repaired. Because the condition of a pipeline is not a static state however, corrosion that is not immediately addressed will continue to grow and may pose a threat to pipeline integrity. When multiple sets of ILI data are available, corrosion rates can be assessed for every identified anomaly on a pipeline. Site specific corrosion rates can then be utilized to determine how quickly those remaining corrosion anomalies will deteriorate to an unacceptable level, and appropriate, timely remediation activities can be scheduled. Identifying active corrosion is also a necessary step for isolating those areas where corrosion mitigation activities are breaking down, and facilitates a proactive approach to addressing corrosion before it becomes severe. Potentially, corrosion rate analysis from ILI data and other pipeline integrity methods such as direct assessment (DA) can be integrated into a mutually beneficial model, each providing valuable feedback that helps refine the other. This paper presents an overview of the assessment of corrosion rates from in-line-inspection (ILI) data on pipelines. It reviews 1. Methods of calculating corrosion rates, 2. Identifying active corrosion, 3. Predicting future corrosion severity, 4. Calculating risk and reliability, 5. Assessing re-inspection intervals, 6. An integrated approach to integrity management for the future.
