In order to fulfill the main goals of the CryoSat-2 missionrnit is necessary to validate the different CryoSat-2 productsrnagainst independent measurements. The objective of thernCryoSat Validation Experiments CryoVEx is to collectrnand analyse airborne and ground-based measurements inrnorder to get such independent data sets. In 2008/09 andrn2010/11 the Institut f¨ur Planetare Geod¨asie of TU Dresdenrn(IPG) successfully realised CryoVEx campaigns inrnthe blue-ice area southeast of Schirmacheroasis, DronningrnMaud Land, East Antarctica. Since altimetric returnsrnat blue ice will be dominated by the surface reflectionrnsuch areas are especially well suited for calibration/rnvalidation activities. The surface heights havernbeen observed utilising kinematic GNSS measurements.rnSince 1991, extensive ground-based observations alongrntraverses covering the blue-ice area have been carried outrnin order to determine long-term surface-height changesrnand surface velocities. The two Antarctic CryoVEx campaignsrnprovide an excellent continuation of these longtermrnobservations. In addition, several test grids havernbeen observed. The CryoVEx results show an anomalousrntrend reversal of the surface-height change when comparedrnto the older observations, which urgently demandsrna further field campaign. Additionally, the ground-basedrnresults will be compared with coordinated airborne measurementsrncarried out by AWI. Finally, first direct comparisonsrnwith CryoSat-2 data sets will be presented.
