During the last decade hypervalent sulfur fluorides have been explored as building blocks for compounds with various functions. Primarily, this interest was driven by the unique property profile of the pentafluorosulfanyl and related groups. The development of more convenient synthetic procedures and the commercial availability of several synthetic precursors provided additional stimulus for the research on this fascinating class of compounds.
