Abstract: A rugged, compact, portable, solid-optics correlator developed by Teledyne Brown Engineering (TBE) is the key element for an optical processing system capable of performing pattern recognition in real time. The correlator uses pixelated spatial light modulators and phase-only filters and can use as input information extracted from any sensor signal. This powerful optical pattern recognizer has potential for many applications, including use by smart weapons for midcourse guidance and navigation, target recognition, aimpoint selection, and precise terminal homing. The correlator will be tested as part of a system developed by the U.S. Army Missile Command (MICOM) to guide a missile to hit a target. This paper describes the correlator and the MICOM testing procedure.!
